Emmaus has been operating in the UK since 1991, providing a home and meaningful work for people who have experienced homelessness and social exclusion.
The Trust has awarded funding of £16,000 to enable Emmaus UK to undertake a feasibility study to establish the need for a women only Emmaus community. Research has shown that women need services that better cater for their needs. In particular:
-
Women only support and access to female staff
-
Staff training on the specific challenges women often face
-
Partnership working to address the full range of women's needs
-
Peer support from others who have been through similar experiences
-
Helping to deal with the loss of children
The project will report back on the first phase of the feasibility study by the end of 2017.
