Statement from the Chair of the Smallwood Trust
Smallwood Trust is deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Her Majesty the Queen.
The Queen has been our Patron since 1952 and has devoted a great deal of her life to helping those in need.
In our Annual Report of 1952 you can see that the Queen granted the Society for the Assistance of Ladies in Reduced Circumstances (as it was back then) her Patronage after 66 years of helping ‘many hundreds of poor, suffering and elderly ladies, through serious ill-health or misfortune beyond their control.’
In the 70 years since, the Queen has been an exemplary figurehead in a rapidly changing world and the Trust is truly honoured to have had her support in our continuing mission of ending gendered poverty.
We offer our condolences to the Royal Family and we are grateful for the extraordinary service of Queen Elizabeth II.
D’Arcy Myers, Chair, on behalf of the Board of the Smallwood Trust
