Case study
Women Today North East
Women Today North East is a Middlesbrough based network of individuals and organisations that seek to support Black African women in the UK to bring about empowerment and help them recognise their full potential. They achieve this by providing wrap around services for their beneficiaries, including social, educational and health improvement activities that ultimately lead to increased financial awareness and resilience.
The Trust awarded a grant of £21,866 though the Women’s Sector Resilience Fund to significantly increase their capacity and meet the growing need of their community during the pandemic, including rising rates of destitution and health inequalities. The funding covered three key areas:
-
Increased staff hours to meet large demand
-
Organisational training to support the development of a specialist refuge for Black African women
-
Destitution Fund to cover essential items for women experiencing poverty
