Happy Baby Community

Happy Baby Community builds safe and resilient communities for pregnant women and women with young children who have fled war, violence and traffickers and seek asylum in the UK. Led by women with lived experience, they support beneficiaries through shared knowledge and understanding. Happy Baby Community provides welfare advice, counselling and development opportunities for mothers and their children so they begin to rebuild their lives.

The Trust awarded a grant of £24,700 though the Women’s Sector Resilience Fund to help adapt support services online including a weekly virtual platform for welfare advice and counselling, employ an Outreach Worker to support referrals of new members, liaise with stakeholders and run support groups. The funding also covered rent for two drop in centres and provided data for 80 women to access online services.

“The Happy Baby Community been able to extend its reach and take on more referrals. We have also added more services online which now include 3 children’s reading and singing sessions, 18 English lessons attended by over 120 women each week, ante-natal and perinatal support, welfare drop-in service. We have also created 14 language based chat rooms and we are using these to support mums who are struggling to access information and support and training more community volunteers to deliver this support – this includes access to nurseries, access to education, support with getting clothing and school uniforms.” (Lucy Bracken, Trustee)
