Women’s Health in South Tyneside (WHiST)

Women’s Health in South Tyneside supports women in the local area to gain the confidence to make informed decisions that affect their health, wellbeing and progression. Services address mental and physical health through counselling, support groups and training and educational opportunities.

The Trust awarded a grant of £29,308 through the Women’s Sector Resilience Fund to respond to the 45% increase in demand and support women to access their services. By covering core costs and overheads, WHiST was able to respond to the fast changing situation and the needs of their beneficiaries who reported a decrease in their physical and mental health and an increase in fuel and food insecurity.

“I’m so grateful for this support. I’ve no family up here and am shielding. Its been so lonely and at times, I just wanted to give up. These weekly calls have helped me slowly feel better. They got me some food deliveries sorted and got me onto an online relaxation class. Speaking to other women was scary at first but its felt like a lifeline. Now I can’t wait for WHiST to open back up again. I’ll be the first in the queue!” (Beneficiary)
